CCDW news, especially for our friends downstate:

As we all know, the person responsible for approving CCDW permits in Delaware is the Resident Judge in the county where the applicant resides. In Sussex County, the Resident Judge is T. Henley Graves, who has been Resident Judge since 2000. The other Resident Judges are William Witham in Kent County and Richard Cooch in New Castle County, who have held those posts since 2005 and 2000, respectively. A big part of the reason we have some approximation of shall-issue CCDW permits, instead of Maryland or New Jersey style lunacy, is those three men interpret the statute requiring applicants to have a good reason for a license to mean that you want to protect your person or property (you know, like a sane, responsible adult). But it wasn't always that way, and with a may-issue statute, it doesn't have to continue being that way.

Anyway, Judge Graves recently announced his retirement. He's been a judge for nearly 30 years and I believe he's about 70 years old. This means Governor Let's-Ban-Guns gets to appoint his replacement as Resident Judge, subject to the approval of the state senate. Please make sure your senators especially are aware that the next Resident Judge needs to be 2A friendly.

Also, this issue is coming down the pike sooner or later in Kent and New Castle -- Judges Witham and Cooch are about the same age, and may well decide to retire before we get a new governor.
