Looking forward to a trip out to 302 Tac Ops' shooting range this Sunday to complete the final phase of my CCDW class, the two-hour Range Qualification segment.

So, I grabbed a 150-count box of 115-grain Winchester USA Forged in 9mm on my way out the door after Wednesday's class. I am -so- looking forward to punching some paper! It's been a while, and I could use the therapy! 8-)

Thinking that I might go back to Cabela's on Saturday, or maybe on-my-way to the range on Sunday, and invest in a new set of ears; but, with electronics though.

My group goes online from Noon until 1400-hrs...

Excellent! Thank you, Miss Amy! :)

Tired of the squish-foam, and lost my last good set of earmuffs several years ago; so, figured that I'd update to a new set with the electronics. Might grab a fresh pair of eyes too. A little Sunday Morning, pre-range shopping, will be good for moral! :D

Well, the proof is in the paper, Gang. This was my target for the first 100-rounds. Fifty each from three-yards, and then from five-yards. The last 50 were shot from seven-yards onto steel.

Anything within the center-mass demarcation was acceptable; but, the preferred placement was inside if the pie-plate. The one flier, well to -me- it was a flier, that went outside the circle was using a loaner Glock, shooting weak-side. So, I'm happy enough with a center-line hit for that one round, since the other ninety-nine went into the pie-plate.

There were a few weak-side fliers working on the steel from from seven-yards; but, that just lets me know that there is an area that I need to work on more.

Side note: My Astra A-90 did NOT like the lack of finish on the steel casing of the 115-grain Winchester USA Forged 9mm; so, I borrowed a gen-one Glock 17, and finished out the last 75% of the training using that. And, it ate the rounds just fine...

Fun day! Even got to bring home a range souvenir! When we were shooting the first cycle on the steel, someones' splash tagged me in the right hand, and I still have a frag in there. WINNING! LOL

Nice shooting! :pbjtime:

I always wear double hearing protection myself I don't need to loose any more hearing. :troll:

Are there any rules about the caliber you qualify with? 22lr? 500S&w? what you intend to carry? shooters choice?

Ours is open, any caliber. used to be it was based on the same type of action you intended to carry, wheel or auto, but that was done away a while ago. now it's shooters choice for qual, and what you qualify does not limit which action you carry.

looks to be same distances you guys have, and i think it was 10 rounds 3/5/7y. 80% or so have to be inside a 7 ring of the target. no steel, all paper.

DE- Expend 100 rounds

...no stipulation on hitting any target, shooting at a target, qualifying score, min/max caliber, etc.

Not sure if :banghead: or :pbjtime: is in order!

With that being said, our instructors informed us that we would be proficient before we received our class certs! They are willing to work with anyone as much as they need even if it meant multiple range trips and extended coaching. During our range time, they ran us through different scenarios, different ways of shooting (off-hand, close body holds, drawing from holster techniques, etc.) They are great guys and actually do care that you will be able to defend yourself if the need arises.

Agreed, Brother! One-hundred is nothing. The Training Group that I'm working with at least added 50-rounds to that; but, unlike the rest of my range group, I realize that should/will be just the start. I'd be surprised to see any of them doing any of the Skill Builder classes like Pistol One, Moving/Shooting, etc...

Our drills were all from a High Ready. Two-shots, six-shots, two-strong > return > transition > two weak, two-shots > return > two-shots. Again, a starting point. :)
