I recently chronographed some of the ammunition I carry, the actual cartridges carried, not just the load. I noticed a tremendous drop in velocity, not to mention lack of "umpf" compared to the cartridges from the same load that had not been carried. Perhaps it's the weather? From time to time, I am unable to carry throughout my daily routine, and must store my equipment in a lock box in my car.

I think I'll store some extra ammo in the car and compare it to some "unfrozen" ammo next time I get the chrono out.

Any thoughts?

Cold air is more dense so more resistance to push through. Powders can also be temperature sensitive. If I had to guess it's both of those combined.
