How's it going, I'm new to this forum, I'm a PA resident looking to go to the beach in Delaware in order to avoid NJ, I read up on most of your firearm laws and I think I have everything down, I have my Utah license which covers me to conceal or to carry in Dover

The one main thing is, I see state and national parks are off limits, is a beach consider either one of those? Is it possible to find yourself in a state or national park without knowing in DE or is it pretty obvious?

Me and my gf are going kayaking in the Brandy wine soon, I know the brandy wine runs through a state park so I'll leave my firearm locked in the car off the state park. But is oc spray allowed to be carried in state parks as I don't want to be completely defenseless

From my research I can't find any regulations on oc spray in DE but I want to double check

I will of course carry my tactile flashlight and an air horn for any dangerous wildlife

Thanks for help!

Delaware has 17 State Parks.

Here is an app for iPhone & Android that is helpful.

Here is a list of the State Parks.

Delaware also has a number of wildlife areas that are managed by DNREC.

Here is the main website for the DE State Parks.

In general, the State Parks have a gated entrance. At the entrance you either pay or pass (depending if you have an annual pass or are an out-of-state visitor) so you will know if you are in a State Park or not.

Dangerous wildlife? Like a raccoon or a man? :?
Because honestly, I can't think of the last time any real dangerous 'wildlife' has been spotted in DE.

As far as kayaking and canoeing it frequently ends at Thomson's bridge, which is a part of the Brandywine State Park. There are several damns downstream after this point.

As far as the beaches and state parks there. I'd guess it is possible while walking along the beach to stumble into one of the state parks there, since there are several. But it's a hike. They're well marked off on the road but I don't remember seeing signs on the beach itself where it starts/ends.

The towns like Rehoboth, Lewis and Bethany and Dewey Beach etc being separate from the state parks and firearms are OK there.

Thanks for the help

So is it safe to assume I'm OK carrying while kayaking as long as I don't cross the bridge?

Also is wildlife areas not OK to carry?

One last question, is there any national parks in DE?

Thanks again

There are no national parks in DE.

Wildlife areas managed by DNREC are 'no carry zones' unless during specific hunting seasons and in specific areas for hunting.

I do remember a mountain lion being sighted a decade ago when it was in the Brandywine Hundred area. So OK, maybe we have one or two breeding pairs of mountain lions (cougars) in the state.

Aren't there Bears too?
I firmly believe those bear sightings are Bigfoot. :o

Oh, and lets not forget coyotes;

Me I've never seen any of them, though a couple guys at work think they saw the mountain lion 10 years ago. I do see deer all the time, so it's possible there are predators out there to eat them and the geese that refuse to migrate.

But still the most viscous wild animals I've seen are raccoons and possums. (in my own back yard no less!)

back when I was doing my early commute to work (around 4am) I once spotted a coyote (ok, mainly just his tail) crossing Rte 4 near the 273 overpass...I've also seen several fox along Rte 4 also...mostly near Our Lady of Grace but none since they put the fuel cells across the road... :(
