now i may be incorrect, but this article, with citing of the atf reg, following, that IF YOU START AS A PISTOL, you may go back / forth accordingly. as noted, being careful as you change. changing to / from in the wrong order, could result in an nfa violation.

if you start as a rifle, then not.

the atf regs are here: http://www.atf.gov/regulations-rulings/ ... index.html

As for the pistol rifle. A stripped lower, whether a 100% transferred to you as a receiver or an 80% that you finish, can be built into either a pistol or a rifle. But once it's a rifle, it's ALWAYS a rifle. You CANNOT go back to a pistol from a rifle. But you can change a pistol to a rifle will no issues or paperwork.
