This^^^

Oh budsgunshop.com runs specials on Anderson lowers (got mine for $49+transfer)

I built a poly lower and while it was cool, I just don't see it being worth the hassle. You'll need to do a bit of sanding to get everything to fit correctly. The only benefit I can see is for an ultimate light weight build. The next time, I'll just hit up Viper98 for a regular stripped aluminum lower.

Viper got me a pair of BCI Defense lowers for a song.

Hello folks. Hope all is well with everyone. I know it's been a while since I last posted. Talked to Viper today about getting two AR's and started looking online again during lunch today. I can't for the life of me seem to be able to find all the great info I found last time I was looking.

Now I am wondering do I just build my own? What kind of money would I really be saving???

It's not that building your own is cheaper as much as it is spending money once. If you buy a pre built you tend to change out pieces and that is where it gets expensive. Better to buy exactly what you want in parts -or pretty close- than to buy generic and then replace parts. I know for me I replaced enough parts that I ended up with almost two rifles worth. Lol

I got my AR-15 from viper98. It is a DPMS Oracle. Nice rifle. Shoots great. He gave me a great price.

Building your own might not save you a ton of money, but it is good for the knowledge it'll give you as to how these rifles go together and function.

I have a stripped lower receiver I got from Essential Arms many years ago. Nice quality. Made in USA. They have all the parts you'd need to build one, too (as far as I know). http://www.essentialarms.com/index1.html

The place where youre going to save the most money is if youre one of those people who will take all the stuff off the gun and and buy better parts for it. In that case just buy all the high end stuff right off the bat. If you just want a $700 fun to shoot or youve found a company who makes exactly the gun you want as is then buy that

Honestly, I'd get an assembled upper from Palmetto State Armory:

http://palmettostatearmory.com/ar-15-05 ... blies.html

add a lower build kit:

http://palmettostatearmory.com/ar-15-05 ... -kits.html

and a lower:

Total: ~$500 depending on the upper

If you're lazy, you could just get an assembled lower, but you will learn so much about the function of the rifle (and possible malfunctions) by putting one together. Here's a great video to help with assembling:

I built my AR during the last panic, but managed to still "only" pay MSRP for the pieces. Total came to around $1300 - BUT that was with cerakote coating on upper & lower, custom engravings, mid-range nitride barrel, NiB BCG, free float tube, Magpul grip & stock, quick disconnect point on reciever end plate, RAPTOR charging handle, ambi safety, etc. Getting a gun with those specific parts wasn't even possible, so I would have spent WAY more getting a gun and replacing everything. For a cheap no-frills plinker you can get a "sporter" AR for much less, probably half that.
