A Buena Vista teenager is charged with attempting to stab two New Castle County Police officers with a 13-inch knife before they stopped his attack by using a stun gun.
Darin Jimerson, 19, of the first block of Aidone Drive, is charged with multiple felony offenses after police arrested him around 9 p.m. Sunday, Cpl. Trinidad Navarro said in a news release.
Officers responded to a street fight in the area where Jimerson lives, and witnesses said he was involved in the fight. As police talked with Jimerson in his home, they noticed he had a large kitchen knife in his pocket, Navarro said.
When police asked Jimerson to put the knife on the floor, he ran into the home’s kitchen and brandished the knife in a menacing manner, Navarro said. Jimerson then raised the knife and lunged toward the officers, who used a stun gun to stop him.
Jimerson then kicked both officers while being handcuffed, Navarro said. While being taken to the police car, Jimerson tried to break free. He also initially provided a false identity at the time of the arrest, Navarro said.
Jimerson was charged with two counts each of aggravated menacing and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and one count each of felony resisting arrest, offensive touching on a police officer and criminal impersonation.
He was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute after failing to post $37,000 bond, Navarro said.
