I'm upset with the Republican party for two reasons. First, because they squandered the majority that they held in congress during the 1990s by refusing to be true conservatives. Their political cowardice and laziness wasted a golden opportunity to deal, once and for all, with the major issues that are now dividing the nation: abortion, 2nd amendment freedom, illegal immigration, the national budget, etc. They did nothing for the country and thereby lost their conservative base of support. Over time, this allowed the democrats to regain control of congress. The republican leader at the time, Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, no doubt deserves the lion's share of the blame. He miserably failed to deliver on his "Contract with America."

As if that weren't enough, the Republican party further displayed their ineptness when they fielded an unelectable presidential ticket in the 2008 election. John McCain was too old and not a true conservative. Many believe that he only won the nomination because of cross-over democrats who voted in Republican primaries and caucases. The fielding of this weak candidate led to the election of the Democratic candidate, who now appears to be a thinly veiled socialist.

Today, I genuinely fear for our nation. We are sliding down the slippery slope toward socialism and no one is either smart enough, or willing to apply the brakes. There is a vacuum of national conservative leadership and I don't see anyone on the horizon to fill it.

Forgive my venting, but I'm just completely fed up with it all. There is now no viable political party that I can support. Both of the major parties appear, in my estimation, to be corrupted beyond redemption. What do you guys think?

I think your right, the ball was deffinately dropped.

And I think it's time for the little guy candidate. I nominate Steve(Stephpd) to run for governor. :applause:

I have such a tainted past I couldn't even pass the vetting process for dog catcher. Dog Catcher Czar is another story.

I hear you DMac- though I'd lost hope on either party back with Nixon. Before that time I was just to young to know or care.

But recent events give me hope in 'The People'. Time to flush all career politicians down the toilet and vote in new folks. ;)

Vote anti incumbent!

The Republicans Dropped the Ball
First, I voted for Bush because the other choice was Al Gore.

Then, I voted for Bush because the other choice was John Kerry.

"when you are left with having to choose the lesser of two evils, you are still choosing evil" - Jerry Garcia, guitarist for The Grateful Dead.

This is why I support the idea of term limits for Congress. Serving in elected office is service to the people they represent. Career politicians have lost that and serve only the party.

So then the way that we the people can begin to change the corrupt party system, is by voting out every incumbent (no exceptions) and then demanding strict term limits on every congressional representative, both in the House and Senate. Does anyone know of an existing organization that supports these measures?
