If you have a particular encounter with another citizen or LEO, post it here.

Much like calling up your bank and telling them you're coming over to do some banking and you want to know if it's OK with them for you to bring your handgun. :shock:

However, if you just go about your banking business while OC you seldom get a second look. 8-)

The only time I have ever asked a Corporate office about their policy for citizen carry was when I worked at Dollar General on 896 (between the Nick & Joes and Superfresh). I didn't even own a firearm at the time, and still don't own a handgun, so I wasn't actually concerned with trying to OC there.

Instead, my querie was prompted by a document all employees were required to sign out of the blue - not as a condition of initial employment, but after I had already been working there for a while. The document required all employees to immediatly tell the manager if we knew a coworker had a firearm, or even if we THOUGHT that a coworker MIGHT have a firearm in their VEHICLE, parked in the communal parking lot (the front lot, shared by Superfresh, DG, liquor store, Nick & Joes, PNC, and at one time a movie rental place). I stalled on signing it, and don't remember ever actually doing so.

I emailed Corporate via the website and their reply, in December 2008, was:
"Dollar General does not have any customer policies that relate to the legal carrying of firearms. We comply with any local/state laws in regards to this matter. If you wish to speak with someone about this any further, you are welcome to contact us at 1-800-678-9258." This might have changed since then, don't know.

When I told the manager at the time (she has since left DG) that our customers could just walk in with a gun on their hip, no permit needed, she was astounded. She didn't support OC, but atleast was aware of it and learned something.

Looks to me like three separate but somewhat related issues here.

1) Employees and their 'rulebook'. If mentioned it's usually to forbid it (haven't seen many that encourage it). But that's for the employee and has nothing to do with customers.

2) Asking permission prior to or while in the places. I'm not one that wants to garner attention, though my general appearance might say otherwise. I just don't ask permission. If asked to leave I'll go but not before asking if this is store policy. Which will lead to;

3) Getting clarification of store policy after being denied service. I've never done it but I don't see what the problem is with getting a written statement from corporate. I've seen this done by a few folks, mostly over at PAFOA, after folks have been escorted off the property. Any place that won't recognize my rights won't get my business. If it's a problem with a local store manager then this route could alleviate future problems. If corporate has a problem with it then I'd like to know and spread the word and hope they lose enough business that they close up.

I'm not sure why Walmart in Middletown (or the local police) had a problem this time, when many folks here and elsewhere have been in their stores without any problems. I know Walmart corporate has given out a statement that OC is OK if it's legal in the states the stores are in.

The Middletown police should have been made aware of OC with the Boots incident in the park. There is just no excuse for their actions. With only 30 offices on the force I find it hard to believe that they hadn't heard of what happened to Boots or that OC is legal. Refusing to acknowledge the law, and act as if their opinion is law, is the only thing that I can come up with.

That I have zero tolerance for.

Dateline: 28 August 2010, Middletown, DE - I strolled around Wally World in Middletown this afternoon... intentionally looking like I was looking for something that I couldn't find... I was approached by several helpful associates and a few who looked like they could be department managers... I specifically asked one manager type if someone I know was working today... many have seen and none have reacted...

OK, so one checker outer guy stared at my gun, but I think it was lustfully...

I carried in there today when I picked up a box of .40 for the trip to the range with Tony T. And DESteve (which was a blast, no pun intended), and didn't have an issue this time.

Special thanks to Tony and Steve, they showed me a great time today and I really needed that. It lasted all the way until I got home, for the whole 5+ hours we were there, I was stress free. Thanks again guys.
