Hey folks, I've been reading diligently for about a week to get a feeling for the place and I wanted to share my first impressions.
There are certainly some folks who post on here who might want to readdress the reasons they carry. I'm getting the impression that some folks OC simply to make a statement and they really aren't on board with the real reason we should all carry. 2nd amendment rights are guaranteed to all of us however, if you use the 2nd amendment just to force your opinions and act foolish because you think it's your right, you are doing it for the wrong reasons. Strutting your stuff with a weapon on your hip makes you about as cool as a gang banger with his pants hanging down wearing colors.
I agree that OC should be everyone's right and as long as you act like a mature, law abiding citizen, you shouldn't be hassled when you are OCing. Walking into a public business acting professional and courteous shouldn't get you into any trouble. Walking into a public business acting like a fool will attract attention and then you just might have to explain to the law why you are doing what you are doing. If a LEO approaches you and asks you basic information, you should have no problem producing the information, this is NOT harassment. Just because it is lawful to carry doesn't make it a carte blanche for no-one to ask questions why there is a person OCing in line at Walmart.
I was at a gas station this past weekend and was filling my truck, on the other side of the pumps was a guy on a motorcycle OCing. He was loud and being the type I call "look at me". Anyone (carrying or not) who either acts, dresses or speaks in a way that directs attention towards them at all times, gets the title. This guy was acting like that AND open carrying. Do you think he would get the attention of a LEO just because the way he was acting? Do you think you would question the guy if you performed the duty of a LEO?
I personally choose to carry CC, I'm currently waiting on my CCDW permit to come back so right now I'm not carrying. I'm also married to a LEO so I certainly understand what they deal with day in and day out. If you want to be questioned, bring attention to yourself by acting differently than the rest of society. If you are OCing to make a statement, you are using the 2nd amendment for the wrong reasons and you are proof that some people just aren't mature enough to carry. Carrying a firearm is a very responsible thing to do, it is your right as an American and acting responsible in every part of your life reflects highly on your character.
Now, for the good...... This place is great for 99% of the people on here. The good folks seem to immediately weed out the clowns and make them either conform or go away, I like that! When someone comes on here spouting off, the smart ones eliminate the threat quickly, I like that too.
I hope to stick around and share my experiences and listen to everyone elses as long as you will have me.
Hope my initial impressions of the few don't piss off the majority, just keeping it real!
