"In the aftermath of the evil and senseless attack in Las Vegas, the American people are looking for answers as to how future tragedies can be prevented."

"Unfortunately, the first response from some politicians has been to call for more gun control. Banning guns from law-abiding Americans based on the criminal act of a madman will do nothing to prevent future attacks. This is a fact that has been proven time and again in countries across the world.

In Las Vegas, reports indicate that certain devices were used to modify the firearms involved. Despite the fact that the Obama administration approved the sale of bump fire stocks on at least two occasions, the National Rifle Association is calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law.

"The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations."

"In an increasingly dangerous world, the NRA remains focused on our mission: strengthening Americans' Second Amendment freedom to defend themselves, their families and their communities."

"To that end, on behalf of our five million members across the country, we urge Congress to pass National Right-to-Carry reciprocity, which will allow law-abiding Americans to defend themselves and their families from acts of violence."

some mixed emotions on this, and a few thoughts from other sites.

the idealist in me says give up nothing. ever. we have given up too much for too long. including slide fire. and fight to expand access to that pro-2a people argue.

the realist in me says there is a freight train coming, and squarely in the middle of the track is slide fire. the folks on the anti-2a side are never gonna stop, on any level, but especially now on the slidebump.

at some point, the pragmatist kicks in. and questions.

is the nra caving on slide fire? or are they putting a poison pill into the discussion? delay, depending on your perspective is victory, or NOT defeat, many times.

no dem will support suppressors or permit reciprocity. maybe tack in sbr to end this brace stuff. but they have sights set on slide/bump.

well, if you want slide/bump banned, it's a trade.

if they don't want to trade, 2018 will see provide direction. and 2020.

i don't think giving up anything is good or smart, but neither is train tracks over our collective butt. i cant say i fully agree with the nra on giving slide fire away, but it creates the delay as well as a poison pill, and still leaves the possibility for some things that MANY MANY people want.

reluctantly, i think the nra sees the train coming, is giving it self from "reasonable" cover, and doing the delay/poison pill until things quiet down. maybe the status quo will remain, and if a slidebump ban law happens, well get a few good pro-2a things out of it.

When I read it, it seemed to say: "Congress: get back to work on reciprocity. Bumpstocks are the ATF's problem."

But I am an optimist. :kuku:
